personal defense fantasies

Posted in survival, weapons with tags on October 14, 2011 by Word-Drum

Hey you gun nuts! What is your minimum and maximum personal defense/survival needs?

Ideally, guns are about the right tool for the job. If you can’t have all the tools my feeling is a 45 with high capacity is necessary for personal defense. I could be dead wrong, but for human targets, a spray of 45 ACP rounds can be as good as a shotgun blast.

A good 45 and a backup pistol would make me feel secure. Then a rifle for hunting is needed if there is a Semi-State of Emergency: where food distribution is stopped.

If we go Code Red and it is something like a State of War, then you would need a rifle. My choice would be a AR-15 (or a real M16) with a grenade launcher. With plenty of ammo for each firearm, I would at least have a fighting chance.

P.S. I noticed there were very few used FNP 45s for sale on line. None in the style I want. Folks must like the FNP and are holding on to them(I want to hold on to one too). On the other hand, a fancy 45 I wanted a year or two ago, the Para ‘Gun Rights’ with a 14 round capacity, was being sold for half price.

If you saw the Flashlight/Box Gun that they built on the show “Sons of Guns,” it was cool but is it really necessary? I can use the tactical light for the FNP45 as a flashlight, and use my own survival kit. This box rocks! Be a friend and send me one.

Feel safe?

Black Five:

Concealed Carry is Counter Terrorism by Uncle Jimbo

excerpt:

…I do not recognize the right of any individual or group to disarm me. So regardless of what rules petty bureaucrats may enact, I will retain my right to self defense. So when Ahknard pulls out an AK, I will take dead aim and he will eat multiple .357 cal 125 gr. semi-jacketed hollow points. This type of response is most likely to happen in red state areas and if the jihadis had any intellectual firepower they would concentrate their efforts in Chicago, NYC and DC where the government has disarmed the populace. The only thing they would have to look out for is the well-armed and extremely violent gangs in all those areas, but they would have plenty of defenseless sheep to slaughter. Weird huh, how the most gun-controlled areas in the country have some of the worst gun violence. We probably just need a few more laws, or regulations.

video: 45 comparisons

Posted in video, weapons with tags , , on December 14, 2010 by Word-Drum

I’ve wanted an FNP45 for a long time. This video makes me wonder about the double action. I’m not used to it, but perhaps it’s safer. I decided to get the basic model without a manual safety. I just like the look of the pistol, the size and high capacity. But in a crunch, that first shot won’t feel right without time to cock it. Or does racking it also cock it? I can do that in a flash. Hope I get a chance to try one. No rush, since I can’t swing the nearly 900 bucks (pistol and tactical light) right now anyway.

Fans and foes can always contribute to WordDrum’s Arsenal Fund (same address as The Palestinian Martyrs Green Fund).

[Note: I’ve never had the problem described in the video with my XD9. I think the design is pretty close to the XD45.]

war between sunni and shite

Posted in Iran, Islam, war, weapons with tags , , , , , on October 19, 2010 by Word-Drum

The war is on. The Muslim Brotherhood is taking it’s aim off the West and Israel, and going to war with Iran and the Shites. Iranian influence is meeting resistance throughout the Arab world, while Hezbollah is taking on Hamas. Hamas is fracturing, having received Iranian weaponry and agents of the Mullahs.

It’s a fight to the death. There is great passion on both sides unlike the jihad on the infidels. The infidels are more focused on the new Jackass movie. It’s in 3D and not from the seventh century.

(The link above reports that the cats from the Muslim Brotherhood have abandoned stealthy creeping sharia, and are now calling for good ol’ fashioned violent jihad on the West, contrary to this post. That is merely propaganda.)

Update:

Breitbart: Ahmadinejad, Saudi King hold more phone talks

Here’s an excerpt of their conversation:

Ahmadinejad:

“Your Mama’s so fat it should be Ramadan all year round for her.”

King Abdullah:

“Your Mama’s so fat her burka is a tent.”

This is an art blog. That’s all. It’s not about art, it is art…that’s all it is.

Word-Drum believes in tough love. Tough love for liberals and Muslims.

How are some Muslims going to learn about freedom of speech, our most cherished right; and Modern Art, one of the fruits of freedom?

Here’s one way:

(I’m lighting a copy of the Koran on fire.)

(It’s burning well and I’m cooking some pork chops over the flame.)

I call this piece “No More Jihad On The West Or This Will Happen To Everyone Named Mohammed, Not The Jews In Israel”

The book burns but don’t worry there are millions of more copies. It was only symbolic destruction. Not the kind of destruction committed by too many Muslims in the name of Allah all the time.

No one was hurt and I had a nice little snack out of this harmless work of conceptual art.

We are at war and it’s about time we acted like it.

The Mujis are just like the people we called Japs and Krauts. They have to be beaten down before we can be friends and cuddle.

Every Muslim must know that we question their loyalty because of the actions and hatred of the Islamists(who control Islam). We question their so-called Religion. Even liberals do this. Though some would mark 9/11 with a telethon to wipe out ‘Islamophobia.’

Thank Allah it was only an old copy of the Koran that burned. If you now want to “protest” my art work in the manner we are accustomed to coming from crazed Muslims, Bring it.

I always have a few loaded weapons at hand and plenty of ammo. And there are millions of art lovers around me.

Because some people take Art Criticism too far when they target people. Their face could easily become my target…not a pretty picture.

in defense of war

Like many students around the age of 20, I went through my Existentialist Period. Not much of anything from Sartre except

         “Hell is other people”

from his play No Exit, had much of an impact.

But Albert Camus was not only a better writer than the Marxist Sartre, his novel The Plague, still speaks to man’s existence.

The hero, a doctor who fights The Plague, survives. While those who run away die.

Fight The Plague or die from it.

The Modern Plague is Radical Islam. If we withdraw from Afghanistan, it will embolden the jihadists. People will die, women will be tortured, and no one will know.

Not content to be King Piggy at home, these men want to kill and enslave us all. The Obots will let the Muslims conquer us so as not to offend them. They will mark their victory the way they always do, with a large Mosque at the site of what is for them their greatest accomplishment in hundreds of years: 9/11.

The only reason to withdraw Coalition Forces from the region is to bomb it from the air. This, along with a hundred Muslims killed for every American victim of jihad, should be on the table. We need not leave the country to find Muslims. Let’s bring all the Troops home and send in the Air Force, The Navy and Special Ops. Let Muslims suffer for Islam instead of us.

Waiting for the shit to hit is no way for a man to act. After Osama gets off his nuclear attack on America, there will be plenty of gung-ho sentiment. It will then be too late to man-up, but we’ll do it anyway. It won’t matter, nothing will.

I have heard it from a variety of sources that the Islamo-Terrorists were “impressed” by our taking out of Saddam and defeating Al Qaeda in Iraq. Taking the war to the enemy is the only thing that gets through to them. They want us to surrender to Islam. So they must surrender to us. They started it, and we will finish it or freedom will perish.

We Shall Fight. We Shall Never Surrender.

liberty chief “miroku”

Posted in weapons with tags on May 19, 2010 by Word-Drum

This 38 Special belonged to my father. It’s called the Liberty Chief “Miroku.” With a 2 inch barrel, it’s small revolver that was made in Japan. It’s what a Japanese Detective in the 1960s might of carried. It has been passed along to me. Tomorrow I will try it out. If I like the double action pistol, I’ll keep it for now. If not, I will see if I can trade it for a semi-auto 45. It’s not worth much, but I also have a very good microphone to trade. The rounds are bigger than the 9mm I’ve been shooting. I’m moving in the right direction – towards those fat boys (45 cal).

It came with the original box. In the box was a Safety Inspection Certificate my father got in 1968. You needed this in Michigan at the time, I guess. It’s cool because it has his finger print and description.

Update:

It shoots fine but my aim is much better with my XD 9. I only had a few hollow point rounds that I didn’t want to waste. I’ll probably try it again before I sell or trade it. You serious shooters probably only need six shots. At six, I’m just getting started. The FNP 45, with it’s 14 round mag, seems just right.

video: first hydrogen bomb test

Posted in history, video, weapons with tags on January 12, 2010 by Word-Drum

Wired Science:

The long-distance scientific recordings of the blast wave from the first hydrogen bomb test have been rediscovered in a formerly classified safe at Columbia University.

On November 1, 1952, physicists created the second fusion explosion the solar system has ever known. The first occurred around 4.5 billion years ago and ignited the ongoing fusion reaction in the sun. The second, the Ivy Mike experiment, was shorter lived and detonated on an atoll in the South Pacific. This 10-megaton blast was five times more powerful than all the explosives used in World War II combined, including the nuclear-fission bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

warming my xd

Posted in weapons with tags , , on December 23, 2009 by Word-Drum

I went out in the snow to try out my new LaserLyte Rear Sight Laser for my XD.

Even with all the hot air coming out of Copenhagen, Washington and Hollywood, the ice is barely melting here in sunny Arizona.

I had to shoot in the shade of a tree to see the laser. It works well but I think I need to have my sights aligned. I wasn’t sure if it was my aim that the rounds tended to fall low and to the right. With the laser I can always put it close to where I aim. I will take up the offer from the gun shop to sight it for me. I spent over $300 there, also purchasing a ProMag 20 round magazine.

Unfortunately my pistol misfired several times. That never happened before. It could have been the ammo. I started shooting with Winchester and had no problems using the new 20 round mag and my 16 round mag. Then I loaded some Federal (from Walmart) and I started getting jams, and when the mag emptied the slide didn’t open.

This is strange because I’ve shot nearly 500 rounds of Federal ammo with only one or two times when I pulled the trigger, nothing happened.

I cleaned off the nasty carbon emissions in the pistol, and will try again when the weather clears (unless the liberals stop the warming). Then I will write further on the laser and it’s awesomeness.
Update: 1/4/10

Went to my spot in the mountains today. The laser works great. I don’t have to aim at all. I can shoot even more accurate from the low ready position.

Without the laser my handling of the pistol is getting better. I was either gripping too tight or using too much finger. I’m feelin’ it and ready for action.

I experimented with ammo and again found that the 20 round mag does not work well with the cheap stuff. It works alright in the 16 round mag that comes with the XD. I’ll use it up for target practice and stick with the better stuff (my carry load is Magtech since it was the most expensive).

It was good experience dealing with jams. It’s not a big deal. Putting a little extra oil in the winter time seemed the right thing to do. The cold making it evaporate faster.

hi-point 45 acp?

Posted in weapons, word-drum with tags , on October 29, 2009 by Word-Drum

45ACPEven with no jack, I’m still searching for a 45. I have hope and change. Not quite enough change, but I only need about 200 bucks to buy a Hi-Point 45 ACP. The Black Monster is looking pretty good. It’s big Mother made by Americans, for the working man.

Please leave a comment if you know the weapon. I’ve only seen one negative video on YouTube, Every review is positive and owners all seem to like it. It’s not pretty, but it gets the job done.

Posted in video, weapons with tags , , on October 12, 2009 by Word-Drum

There’s a Ruger factory near by. As soon as I can swing it, I’ll get a 45 (for my other hand). I really like the XD 45, a Para like this, or a Glock 21 45ACP, this Ruger is cheaper (but has less capacity). I’ll have to see what kind of deals are available. Please let me know which pistol has the least kick to it. I am a piano-player after all and don’t like a strong recoil. I don’t know if I’ll be able to try the weapon before purchasing it. The video is kind of amusing too. WARNING: THIS GUY HAS HIS FINGER ON THE TRIGGER WHEN IT SHOULD NOT BE THERE. THANK YOU KURT P.

This next video makes me feel good about my first choice in a handgun.

This dude has a 32 round mag for the XD subcompact!  Hear that Santa!? The only problem with it is the shortness of the SubCompact grip.

So you thought Iran was the most frightening nuclear madhouse? With North Korea playing catch-up?

You forgot Syria. Its hidden nuke reactor was bombed by Israel in 2007. But nobody knows what else they have.

You forgot Libya. Qaddafi got scared by Dubya and gave up nukes in 2003. But it’s a big country, and they could be hiding stuff.  Continue

The young Sophie of Styron’s novel was forced to choose which of her two young children were to be murdered in a Nazi concentration camp. I have known real Sophies in my life, among Holocaust Survivors; they were literally forced to choose which of their toddlers to save from death, and to single out those who would not be saved. The Nazis sent an estimated 1.2 million Jewish children to be killed in concentration camps, along with thousands of Gypsy and handicapped children. Sophie and her children were real. Just ask any Holocaust survivor. “
